Review: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates

On September 3, 2016 I finished reading the book Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

There are no words in the English language that I know of that would do this book justice. This was the hardest review I ever wrote and in no way does it show how beautiful, well written, and heartfelt this book is.

I will be recommending this book to everyone. I agree that it is a must read. I knew only a few pages in that this would be a book that I will gladly re-read again and again. It’s raw, honest and real.

This is a short book but it took me some time to get through it. I kept going back and re-reading sentences until I felt like I fully grasped it. This book to me read like someone was telling me all this, I could picture someone reading this out loud like one would a speech.

It’s hard to understand everything that’s going on in the world when you are not directly apart of it. This book lets you see and feel everything from his point of view. It helps you to understand where they’re coming from, how difficult and scary it is growing up and living in this world. How their bodies are not their own but they should be. This book provides you a different perspective, one that everyone should see.

I can’t describe how this book made me feel, I don’t know what words to you. Something inside of me changed while reading this.
